One person died and another was seriously injured after a vehicle crashed into a retaining wall early Thursday at a convenience store on East Washington Street in Hagerstown.

The crash happened shortly after 1 a.m., when a black Honda Accord being driven by Ruben Antonio Molina Ramirez, 24, of Montgomery County, Md., crashed into the retaining wall at the Sheetz store at Cannon Avenue and East Washington Street, according to a news release from Hagerstown police.

Officers said Ramirez was freed from the vehicle and taken to Meritus Medical Center, then transferred to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Ramirez was listed in serious condition Thursday night.

Police said an unidentified man who was a passenger was pronounced dead at Meritus.

The cause of the crash was being investigated by an accident reconstructionist.
