The National Park Service is waiting for better weather to remove a car that crashed along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal near Dargan.

Linzy French, assistant to the superintendent of the C&O Canal National Historical Park in Hagerstown, said officials are waiting for the ground to harden, so they can safely tow the car from a muddy area on the canal’s berm.

“It’s down a very steep embankment,” she said.

The white four-door sedan was discovered Nov. 3.

French said the park service has contacted the owner to recover the car, which slid down a hill in the area of Limekiln Road.

There were no injuries.

She said the wreckage poses no threat to the environment.
