Submit a correction to a published story

Herald-Mail Media strives to be accurate and fair in all of our stories. Sometimes we make mistakes. If you believe we have made an error, please contact Executive Editor Jake Womer at 301-733-5131 ext. 7594, or by email at jwomer@herald-mail.com. Errors made in page one stories will be corrected on page one. All other corrections will run at the top of page A2.

Submit an obituary

We can take obituaries from family members as long as we can confirm the death with a funeral home or crematory. Obituaries cost a minimum of $130 for up to 8 column inches. Other packages and options are available. We require payment via credit card in advance by 4:30 p.m. for the next day’s publication. We also offer free death notices, which are short and include basic service information.

Announce a birth, engagement, or wedding

Announcements must be submitted in writing and received at the Herald-Mail Media office 10 business days prior to the date on which you’d like to see them published. Announcements also must include the name and telephone number of the person providing the information.

Herald-Mail Media charges $50 to print weddings and engagement announcements in the newspaper and to post them to WashingtonCountyWeddings.com. The charge is $30 for our subscribers. All submitted announcements must be legible; please include the signature and phone number of the person making the announcement.

Birth announcements require a signature from a parent (from both parents if last names are different).

Engagement announcements require both signatures from the couple and from parents who formally make the announcement.

We publish photos for engagements and weddings. Please send a sharp, clear photo, 3 by 5 inches or larger. Computer-printed images on photo paper are acceptable; do not use bond paper. Include a self-addressed, stamped envelope if you want us to return the photo. We also accept high-resolution JPEG or TIFF photo files via e-mail. Signatures also may be e-mailed as an attachment.

In most cases, the reporter’s email address is included as part of the byline in both the print and online editions of the story.

Submit a letter to the editor

Letters to the editor may be submitted to opinion@herald-mail.com, or mailed to our address to the attention of the Opinion department. Letters must include your name, hometown and daytime phone number and must be limited to no more than 300 words. The Herald-Mail reserves the right to edit all letters.
