The Wings and Wheels Expo 2011 to be held October 15 and 16 will be
larger in size, with a wide variety of vintage and modern aircraft, wheeled
vehicles and transportation equipment. Wings and Wheels Expo 2011 is a fund-raising event by the Hagerstown Aviation Museum. Proceeds will benefit the museum’s ongoing effort to develop a visitor center and facility to house the museum’s growing collection of historic aviation artifacts, its archives and its more than 15 vintage military and commercial aircraft.
Proceeds will also benefit Warrior Aviation of Frederick, Md., in their mission to support our wounded veterans - who have sacrificed much in the service of their country - and to help them adjust to civilian life and learn skills to increase opportunities for employment.
The Expo will feature:
- Walk-through displays of historic airplanes produced at the local Fairchild Aircraft facility, including:
- The C-82 Packet
- The C-119 Flying Boxcar
- The PT-19 open-cockpit trainer
- And, others dating back to the 1920s
- An impressive line-up of military aircraft
- Aerial displays during the weekend, including:
- Warrior Aviation’s P-51 Mustang and L-39 jet
- a Fairchild Aircraft heritage flight and other flying demonstrations of both warbirds and civilian aircraft
- Rides will be offered in various aircraft
- EAA Chapter 36 will offer free airplane rides for youth ages 8 to 17 through their Young Eagles Program. EAA members donate their time, aircraft and fuel to support this exciting program that gives many young people their first flight experience.
“With Wings and Wheels Expo 2011, we’re planning an atmosphere that is family-oriented, that will showcase the rich industrial, transportation and aviation heritage we have right here in the Cumberland Valley,” noted John Seburn, museum president. “Our neighbors in Franklin County are celebrating their 100th anniversary of flight in 2011, so this is the perfect year to host an all-encompassing event like this at Hagerstown Regional Airport’s Richard A. Henson Field. This airport - for decades the region’s most progressive aviation facility - has a long eventful history that has laid the groundwork for its present-day growth and development,” Seburn added.
Admission is $10.00 each day with children twelve and under free.
Parking is free with shuttle service available.
Attendees can register for free ground prize drawings held periodically during both days of the event. A variety of home-made food will be served by area non-profit organizations and a children’s area with many activities will be provided.
Local businesses can support Wings and Wheels Expo 2011 through a variety of sponsorships ranging from $500 to $5,000. Event sponsorships include a product display area of up to 2,000 square feet with some packages including a free full color ad in the September issue of the museum’s New Pegasus magazine. Of special note, all sponsors making a donation at the $2,500 or $5,000 level will be entered in a drawing to win a flight experience in Warrior Aviation’s vintage World War II P-51 Mustang fighter.
Companies and organizations in the region interested in becoming an Expo sponsor can contact the museum by phone at 301-733-8717 or by email. Information on Wings and Wheels Expo 2011 can be found on-line at the event’s web site at www.wingsandwheelsexpo.com.
