Hagerstown Regional Airport Project Changes the Look of US 11

(HAGERSTOWN, MD March 2007) — The current runway improvement program at Hagerstown Regional Airport will result in significant improvements to your airfield by the end of this calendar year. However, this important work is also affecting the driving public who use this area of US Route 11.

In addition to overpass bridges, new traffic signals have been placed on US Route 11 just north and south of the bridges. These signals will normally be flashing yellow, however under certain traffic conditions these may also allow authorities to stop vehicles from entering the bridges. The bridge spans also contain heat detectors that have the ability to activate the signals during emergencies.

New entrances for Byers Road and Airview Road with turning lanes are under construction as well. Both should be complete in late May or early June, with Airview Road opening first. Some road bumps will be evident near utility manholes until the paving is complete.

Construction of the runway improvement project began in April of 2004 and remains on schedule for substantial completion in December of this year. Additional information about the airport and this project is available on the airport’s web site - www.FlyHagerstown.com
